The Red River Walleye Challenge (RRWC) was founded in 1999 by Jim Steinke, owner of Jay Cee’s Rod & Reel Repairs. Jim, along with Gord and Jan Neil, Crystal Kitchen, and Jim Steinke Jr., came up with the idea to hold a fundraising walleye tournament on the Red River in Selkirk, MB. The RRWC, held each fall, is 100% non-profit. A large portion of the proceeds raised is donated to CancerCare Manitoba Foundation, for their efforts in breast cancer treatment, prevention, care, research, and education for the citizens of Manitoba. The remaining funds are awarded to the top 5 teams in the tournament. This tournament is used to showcase the river's world-class walleye fishery, and to provide a quality community event. The event is also used to promote women in sport fishing, as the two-person teams include at least one female member. This format is believed to be the only one of its kind in Canada. The contributions made each year to CancerCare Manitoba Foundation and the overall success of this event would not be possible without the tremendous support, generosity, and dedication of our supporters and major sponsors throughout the years, along with tournament participants both past and present. |
