1-Tournament Format:

a) Held on the Red River at Selkirk Park from 8:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. on Sunday October 4th, 2009.

b) Boundaries are between the Lockport Dam north to the South Basin of Lake Winnipeg.

c) Two persons (2 females or 1 male & 1 female) per team.

d) The Tournament Director has the right to delay or shorten the tournament, subject to weather and/or safety considerations.

e) When entering the Red River Walleye Challenge and signing the waiver you are releasing the Red River Walleye Challenge and its Directors, Officials, Volunteers, Sponsors, Supporters, Affiliates and Participants from liability of death, injury, damage and loss to property and/or persons while participating in the Red River Walleye Challenge.

f) This is a live release tournament. Under no circumstances can fish be kept.


2-Eligibility:

a) Competitors must be a minimum of 18 years of age, unless they have a parent or guardian fishing with them.

b) All contestants are required to follow all Manitoba Fishery Regulations and possess a valid Manitoba Angling License if 16 years of age or older.

c) All contestants must have a boat with a working live well or a covered container for transporting live fish to the weigh-in (NO PLASTIC BAGS).


3-Registration & Rules meeting:

a) Entry fee is $150.00/2-person team. Cheques are accepted up to September 18th, 2009.  Cash only after this date.

b) Deadline for cancellation refunds is September 18th, 2009.

c) At least one member of each team must attend the rules meeting on Saturday October 3rd, 2009 6:00pm at the Selkirk Inn & Conference Centre.

d) Final team registration and release of numbered motor tags will take place at the rules meeting.

e) Starting positions are based in the order paid entry fee’s are received(ex. 1st paid leaves first, 2nd paid leaves second etc.)

f) All rules have loopholes.  It is the intent of the sponsor to provide an atmosphere of good sportsmanship; therefore contestants are reminded “Spirit of the Rule” shall apply.


4-Boats & Motors:

a) All boats will be required to meet the Canadian Boating Safety Regulations

b) All boats will be required to carry vessel registration in accordance with the regulations of the state/province of the contestant occupying the boat.

c) Boats may be equipped with electric or gas trolling motors.

d) Electronic depth finders, thermometers, oxygen meters, etc… are allowed.

e) Boat motor tags must be affixed to the right or left cowl of the main combustion engine so that they are clearly and plainly visible.


5-Weigh-in:

a) Weigh-in will open at 8:00 AM and close at 4:00 PM (depending on the flight) on Sunday October 4th, 2009.

b) A minimum size limit of 38 centimetres is in effect, measured from the closed mouth to the tips of the pinched tail.

c) Each team will be responsible for its own catch.  Under no circumstances may anyone other than the contestant handle or touch their catch until after it has been presented to weigh-in officials.

d) Fish will be transported from the contestant’s boat in a covered plastic container and put into a tub of fresh water at the weigh-in site.

e) Contestants will be allowed one minute after placing fish in holding tank to revive fish. The fish will be called dead or alive at the discretion of the weigh master. If the fish is judged to be not releasable the contestant will be docked 16 oz from his/her entry. Fish are fully the responsibility of the contestants until the weigh master takes possession.

f)  Dead fish will be retained by the Officials.

g) Fish will be weighed and a copy of the official ticket will be issued.

h) Any discrepancies in weight must be resolved before signing the weigh-in ticket. Once the weigh-in ticket is signed it can’t be altered in any way.


6-Required Activities:

a) Any contestants wishing to protest against another contestant will fill out a protest form within one hour from close of the day. A $200.00 protest fee will be required to accompany any formal protest. The fee will be returned if the protest is found valid.

b) All boats must be inspected by a tournament official prior to the start and must receive their weigh-in tag before they will be allowed to leave in their respective flight.

c) Boats checking in late of the day’s end will be assessed on 8-oz penalty per minute. More than 5 minutes late constitutes a disqualification from the tournament and other prizes.

d) All boats are expected to keep a distance of 10 Feet and must not touch at any time.

e) All contestants will conduct themselves as true sports persons when fishing near another boat.

f)  Anyone needing washroom facilities are required to return to weigh-in area and notify an official before leaving your boat.

g) Under no circumstances can anyone pass anything from one boat to another.

h) Only Walleye will be included in official totals (Sauger or Saugeye will not count).

i)  Spare rods may be carried.

j)  The tournament daily limit shall be a total of four (4) fish per team

k) Only two (2) walleyes can exceed 55 centimetres and team members must have caught only 1 each of the walleyes over 55 centimetres.

l)  Prizes will be given out after the tournament at the Selkirk Inn & Conference Centre at approximately 6:00 PM, depending on the number of entries.  We suggest all attend to see if you qualified for a number of different prizes (Biggest Fish, Top Female Team and Top Youth Award). 


7-Promotion: 

a)  All participants including volunteers understand and permit the Red River Walleye Challenge to use any names and or photographs/images and/or video taken during the event for use in current or future promotional advertising without compensation.
